Your Quick & Simple Review: “Hereditary”

After her mother’s death, Annie’s (Toni Collette) family starts to discover the dark secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited.

As a fan of a good horror flick, and after a few let downs this year, I really had my fingers crossed that this one was going to be as good as it looked.  Praise the baby Jesus, it was.

The film started kinda slow, but they gave little clues here and there of some of things that were going to play a significant role later.  But once they shift the creepy into high gear, it hits you in the face and takes you on one hell of a “hide your eyes” roller coaster ride that fans of this genre are going to love.

As far as the cast goes, I really wanted to see more of Charlie (Milly Shapiro).  Even though her role was smaller than I thought it would be, her character had a long lasting effect on the film.  Toni Collette, as the mom who loses it and makes everything worse, delivers big time.   Then there’s, Alex Wolff, who had me hating him as the, kinda jerk brother only to get me feeling so bad for him in the end, was believable in his role.

Personally, Hereditary is the kind of horror flick that I really like.  The only other films that have come close over the years to getting me like it this much has been both the Conjuring movies.  So it’s definitely a Must See Movie.   And since there isn’t anything substantial coming out this weekend, I think Hereditary should have a real shot at taking the top spot at the box office this weekend.
