Your Quick & Simple Review: “Skyscraper”

Will Ford (Dwayne Johnson), a former Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran, is now assessing security for skyscrapers. On assignment, with his family, in China when he finds the tallest, safest building in the world on fire.  Not only has he been framed for it, but his family is inside the building.  Now he has to rescue them and clear his name and not die in the process.

I will give credit where credit is due, The Rock is probably the hardest working action star out there right now.  Film after film and for the most part, they’re decent movies.  I’m just hoping, at some point, he’ll change his character arc up and try something different.  Because just like a handful of his other films, he’s playing the same role just with a different name and a new movie title.

It was also very interesting to count how many different movies I was watching here… Die Hard 1 & 2, Towering Inferno and Enter The Dragon, mixed in with pretty much every cliche you can think of.  But regardless of the little things I was noticing about Skyscraper, the action is good and it’s entertaining.  A few of the events may be way over the top but so what, it keeps you involved and waiting to see how it was going to play out.  If I did have one wish, it would be to see more of the ass-kicking Neve Campbell.  Haven’t seen her in a while and she was great.
