Your Quick & Simple Review: Tomb Raider

Hoping to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance, Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) embarks on a journey to his last-known destination — a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. The stakes are high as Lara must rely on her sharp mind, blind faith and stubborn spirit to venture into the unknown.

This prequel reboot, to me, was a mix of Raiders Of The Lost Arch, Indian Jones & The Last Crusade and National Treasure.  The only difference between this movie and those, they had a much better story.

Credit where credit is due, Alicia did a very nice job of taking the torch as the new Lara Croft.  I was a lil unsure about it when she was cast, but after watching this one, my mind was changed.  The fact that she did most of her own stunts made believing her as this character easier.  And they very quickly let you know that Vikander was physically fit for the events to come.  Although the story was fine, it just wasn’t any type of epic journey that could have been much better.

If this is to be the lead off to a series of Lara Croft films, then they didn’t stumble out of the gate, they’re just gonna need to come up with something better to stay in the race for box office $$$.  However, I do think fans will enjoy this new Tomb Raider, if they check it out, but, personally, it’s Not A Must See Movie this weekend.
